Thespians at work
For the past several years, the Columbus Drama Club has kept audiences of students, parents, and many more viewers entertained from beginning to end. Being led by teacher Ms. McGrath, she has led the club to many successful district and state turnouts with over 30 individual Excellent Awards and over 30 individual Superior Awards. The club has also won three Critics Choice Awards, the most esteemed award in theater competition. Most members of the drama club are inducted or on their way to being inducted into the International Thespian Honor Society, which is a theater honor society that is recognized worldwide.
The club’s mission is to perform, produce, and create theatrical productions while enlightening students about the importance of theater in the community. The club focuses on many aspects of theater, including performing fall/spring productions, competing in theater competitions, working on set/costume/prop design, learning lighting design, and learning sound design. Most members of the drama club are inducted or on their way to being inducted into the International Thespian Honor Society, which is a theater honor society that is recognized worldwide.
The thespians put on about four or five shows a year, which are all open to the public for a low cost. For their final show of the year, Ms. McGrath wanted to give the audience more opportunity to act, so for most of their upcoming show, decisions of what the characters will do and where they will do their scenes is entirely up to the viewers. This gives a more entertaining opportunity for the audience and allows them to almost work with the actors themselves. This improvisation will also show how well the thespians can create magnificent ideas on the spot, with no practice of what to say before.
With the club hard at work, you don’t want to miss their performances. On May 2nd & 3rd, they have perfomances at 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm both days.
