A Miami Local Chases Her Dream
Silvia Couillard was born in Cuba and moved to Costa Rica with her 11 year old daughter when she was 30. Three months later she was in Miami and now she lives with her daughter and grandchildren in a beautiful suburban home, doing what she loves, cooking.
“I cook for my family everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I always try to break from the tradition cuban food by placing different spices and that is honestly my secret recept,” said Couillard.
There’s no doubt Silvia loves to cook for others, but to understand why, she’ll have to take us back in time.
“Growing up in Cuba my mother was my inspiration to life. I tried to copy her everyday and be exactly like her. Therefore, when I was little, my passion for the kitchen came from my mom. When we fled from Cuba, and finally arrived to America I had the possibility to use my kitchen to my liking. That is when I was truly able to live out my mother’s legacy,” said Couillard.
“I am always proud of the things my mom can accomplish. She has always been the backbone in my family, and she is very talented when it comes to creating dishes for different people,” said Diana Perez, Couillard’s daughter.
Silvia is going to continue to use her mother’s inspiration when she cooks for her family, and hopefully for her customers, in the future.
