College Student Finds Purpose Through Music
Nicolas Rodriguez Fernandez was a regular high school student. In his later years of high school, he discovered his passion- music.
The music industry is not something that is necessarily easy to be a part of. There are organizations, company’s and individual songwriters all trying to survive all by playing music. Nicolas unveiled this passion with a guitar his aunt had given as a gift when he entered high school that had collected dust for a few years prior. His aunt always believed in playing an instrument through high school. Going through high school without having learned how to play an instrument was unheard of to her. He has never wanted to go professional playing music but always loved playing music for himself to hear.
90.7% of all music artists are undiscovered. 6.8% are developing and 1.4% are mid-sized. 0.9% are mainstream and only 0.2% are considered megastars. These stats show the intensity of making it in the music industry. Not only is it hard to make money when you are an artist, but it’s hard to even get your name out there. This is why Nicolas enjoys playing music as a hobby. He does not have to worry about doing crazy stuff that would put his life in danger just to get his name out there, which is something that people are doing so much of nowadays all over the internet.
“Music is a feeling, it’s not necessarily a career for me.”
