Listen up, Columbus
AirPods in Columbus. Are they a good or bad idea for the school? If you haven’t noticed already, half the kids in Columbus are walking around the school with little devices in their ears that look like 2007 business dad bluetooth pieces to call their business associates. Well these are AirPods, by apple. They’re a one of a kind headphone set, with no chords AT ALL. They are entirely bluetooth, and the best part about it? The case comes with a charger. The charger gets charged by Apple’s standard device charger, which makes it really convenient on the go. The case itself, which holds both headphones, is no bigger than a dental floss holder. It is lightweight, it lasts a while, and at least the case looks nice.
Another perk of the headphones is the ability to give each earpiece a different function, such as play the next song, go to the previous song, summon Siri, pause the music, play the music, in whichever ear you want at whatever time. The only problem with them at Columbus is that since they are so small, it’s easy to hide from teachers! But a lot of people don’t think it’s that big of a deal, since they’re just headphones. There ARE no chords so you CAN sneak them in to your ear and just cover it, which makes it a little easier than any other set of headphones out there. So should teachers ban them? After asking a couple of students, they didn’t think they caused that much of a distraction, but, again, they ARE the ones who are using the headphones.
Regardless of the outcome in Columbus, these headphones are definitely setting the bar extremely high for the next generation of headphones to come. With hopes to make them waterproof, that will DEFINITELY change the headphone game as we know it. The only question is, can they be topped? The closest competitors to Apple’s AirPods are Beats by Dre headphones, which wire the two pieces together but are bluetooth from there, which are also similar to JBL’s earbuds, but Apple is the only company with completely wireless headphones, and its own personal charging case. It even has a customization for the name of the earbuds on your Apple device, and battery showing screen whenever opening the case up. Any other company would seem lucky to be closely seen as competitive to Apple right now.
