Arcade Odyssey: Novelty or Banality?
When you think of an arcade in Miami, you’d probably think of places like GameTime or Dave and Busters that exist basically as casinos for people who aren’t yet able to gamble. Arcade Odyssey is currently in an attempt to take that recognition from those big competetitors. The one thing Arcade Odyssey has on them is the type of arcade experience that you get. Arcade Odyssey is more focused on the pure enjoyment of the games rather than winning tickets to then redeem a prize in the end. Along with that, it is significantly less expensive to game at Arcade Odyssey than other arcade chains.
They’re focused on bringing back the old stlye of arcade that people used to enjoy before the time of home entertainment consoles. As the owner mentioned to us in an interview, it’s important for people to play the games for the sake of playing the games, not because they’re looking for some personal gain in the end.
The experience of playing a game for the sake of getting better at the game at stake, customers at Arcade Odyssey get what they pay for with the large selection of classic arcade cabinets and table games that they feature. The classic arcade feel has beens somewhat lost and that shows in the fact that Arcade Odyssey is the southernmost arcade that isn’t a ticket based operation in the United States. With that said, Arcade Odyssey is a novelty that has remained and will remain a monument to the original arcades that predate our modern thirst for gratification.
