The Rise of Social Media

Social media has taken the twenty-first century by storm and at this years Florida Scholastic Press Association’s State Convention student journalist are using platforms like Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram to show people what is going on at the convention

The social media platform has been around for some time now, and people all over the world have used it to share their moments at events like these. Fro, the year 2015 until now event coverage using social media has increased 77.9 percent according to Statista. Most of these coverages are coming from the main platforms that are in interest of today’s youth, Instagram and Snapchat.

This year at the FSPA convention, the board of directors have introduced a competition that had a student journalist cover the convention through Snapchat. This competition included standups, updates of convention, and interviews with key people at the convention. The competition ran from 12:00 PM until deadline at 10:30 PM.

This years FSPA theme was Emerge, Expand, Evolve. The competition showed how each student was emerging, expanding and evolving but also gave a sense of how far technology and social media has come. Social media is a key aspect to most event like these but is also a key marketing component to almost all business and organizations.

With more and more technology advancements being made each day, marketing will advance into something that will be unimaginable. Thanks to social media platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook we are able to share things with people all over the world. With the student journalist being the future, their work they have done on this competition is a clear promise in the future of marketing skills like these.
