Fans gather for Magic City Comic Con
Every year, Comic Cons will arrive in cities everywhere to provide fans of superheroes, anime, sci-fi, and other forms of fiction, to gather together and share their passion for their fictional worlds together. Conventions are a time for them to come dressed as whichever character they love most and meet some of the people who work on the various shows, movies, or books that they have such a passion for. It truly is the perfect place for fans to be fans and geek out as much as they’d like. No one seems to mind as everyone is geeking out together.
“The fact that there are so many people that are a lot like us…. as any part of any fan base we can all come to any convention and share our love together” says attendee Alex Battezini. Battezini came dressed as Goku from the popular anime, Dragon Ball Z. He enjoys coming dressed as characters from his favorite shows and video games to express what his interests are. He states that dressing up is one of the main reasons why he attends conventions.
If it’s not already clear, dressing up is a huge part of the conventions. One will find that those not in a costume are a minority at the convention center. The costumes you will find people dressed up in are not limited to a specific fan base either. From Batman to Goku and everything in between, fans will come dressed as anything and everything.
“Honestly, it’s an experience seeing the people, talking to the people” states attendee Alexander Viera, who came dressed as Scooby-Doo. He and his friends came as a group dressed as various characters from the Scooby-Doo show. Scooby and the rest of Mystery Incorporated are all in attendance. “It’s just a fun experience walking around and you end up taking pictures with people” he comments on why he dresses up the way he does to the convention. “It’s great to talk to other people that understand it and are passionate about it.”
Fans aren’t the only ones who have a great time at the Cons. Those who work on the various projects that the fans are celebrating also have fun when attending a convention.
“I mean, who wouldn’t want to come to these things?” says Michael Lee, a writer for the comedy group, Pineapple Shaped Lamps. Michael and his group put on shows for people at cons such as the one here in Miami. He and his group enjoy traveling to the various conventions to meet and interact with the people they perform for. “We come to Miami, and everyone knows us or gets involved with us or comes to our panels… I love the people at the conventions the most.”
It’s clear to see that no matter what a person is interested in, you will always find fans, and those who make what the fans enjoy, having a good time at the conventions. With so many fictional worlds out there, it’s no wonder that one will find hundreds of fans in attendance of the cons every year.
