Bulls Weekly: AAC Title hopes come down to one game

The race for the AAC East title has come down to the final week of the regular season. The surging USF Bulls have won 6 out of their last 7 games after starting the season off 1-3, and now have a chance at a conference title.

They took care of business Friday against Cincinnati, defeating the Bearcats by a final of 65-27, knocking out Cincinnati from AAC East title contention.

“You saw a team motivated to reach it’s goal,” said Head Coach Willie Taggart. “It’s a confident group that’s grown up, highly motivated and that likes to win.”

The Bulls’ defense stepped up Friday night as well, forcing 4 Interceptions, 2 of which came from sophomore Deatrick Nichols. The team played with the intensity expected considering the circumstance; a chance at their first AAC title.

USF will need some help from UConn (4-3) (6-5) on Saturday, as the Huskies face off against the first place Temple Owls (6-1) (9-2). UConn spoiled Houston undefeated season in a 20-17 win, and will need to do the same this weekend for USF to have a chance of stealing the division.

“I’m really trying not to worry about that right now. I’m just focusing on playing UCF,” said QB Quinton Flowers. “That’s our next game. That’s the only thing we’re focusing on right now.”

But to many USF fans, the UConn Temple game is a larger obstacle to a title than the Bull’s matchup against UCF.

The Golden Knights are at a point in their season where they can really shake things up for their conference rivals.

“We have a lot of momentum right now and we can’t let our confidence get the best of us,” said Runningback Marlon Mack. “Our goal is to win a conference title and we’re one game away from doing that.”

UCF has won the last two meetings against the Bulls, and is looking to continue that and get their first win of the season Saturday night.

Game Prediction: USF will go into this rivalry game with too much momentum for UCF. Quarterback Quinton Flowers will throw for over 250+ yards and lead the Bulls to a victory against a UCF team that is struggling.

Final Score: USF 41 UCF 14
