The Gators are coming off a bye week, and will play arguably their most important game of the season this weekend.
Florida takes on the Georgia Bulldogs, this Saturday in Jacksonville, for a huge SEC East matchup. Right now, Florida is sitting pretty atop the SEC East, and a win this week against Georgia will clinch them the division.
In their last game against number six ranked LSU, the Gators came out with their first loss of the season. It was their first game without QB Will Grier following his suspension for PED use, and Florida played well in his absence.
They only lost by seven points and Treon Harris played great– for three quarters. Treon threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns, but could barely complete a pass in the fourth. He was taking too long to make decisions and couldn’t move his offense when they needed it most. However, the Florida offense did play better than expected, as they scored 28 points in the game.
Following the many upsets this week, Florida moved up two spots in the newest AP poll– on a bye week! Florida moved up to #11 and is believed by the Football Power Index to have the greatest chance of winning the SEC right now. If they can keep on winning, Florida may still be in the talks for the College Football Playoff as they don’t have many tough games remaining on their schedule. Following the Georgia game, they play Vanderbilt who is under .500, an average South Carolina team that has a brand new head coach after Steve Spurrier stepped down a couple weeks ago, FAU, and their biggest rivalry game of the season– #17 FSU.
Prediction for UGA vs UF: Georgia was ranked #9 in the nation coming into the season, but have soon fell out of the Top 25. Georgia was demolished by Alabama at home, and then were upset the following week to Tennessee. They also have seen their best player and preseason Heisman candidate RB Nick Chubb go down with a knee injury. He’s been ruled out for the season, so UGA is shorthanded and coming off a 9-6 win to Missouri– a team UF beat by 18. I don’t see UF’s defense slowing down anytime soon, and their offense will only pick up steam from here. UGA keeps it close in the beginning just because it’s a rivalry game, but UF pulls away in the second half.
Predicted Score: UF 27 UGA 7
