USF head coach Willie Taggart has lived to see another day.
Taggart was under major pressure this week, and those surrounding the program questioned his job security if they were to lose to Syracuse. The outcome of Saturday’s game; however, was the complete opposite of what many fans expected.
USF’s defense held the Orange at bay, and the Bulls’ offense exploded to a 45-24 win.
Running back, Marlon Mack, led the offense with a huge game on the ground, rushing for 184 yards on 20 carries with 2 touchdowns.
This matchup made it clear that if the running game is moving, the Bulls offense can exhibit the success fans are looking for.
Due to the success on the ground, the passing game was opened up, and quarterback Quinton Flowers looked like the quarterback of the future. Flowers completed 15 of 22 passes for 259 yards and tossed 2 touchdown passes.
The quarterback also owned what must be considered the play of the game, when running back Marlon Mack tossed the ball back to Flowers after a hand off. The second year quarterback then found wide receiver Ryeshene Bronson wide open in the endzone for 6.
With quarterback Quinton Flowers now on fire, the offense continues to improve each week. Despite tough performances against teams such as FSU, the Bulls are averaging 409 yards per game which is tied for the 3rd best in school history.
With this recent offensive explosion. the noise about head coach Willie Taggart should cool down. Taggart’s record at USF isn’t impressive at 8-21, but if the team goes on a winning streak, his job may be safe.
Taggart has recruited key players such as Marlon Mack, Quinton Flowers, and wide receiver D’Ernest Johnson thus far and his freshman classes have performed well.
The thing in question for USF now is whether or not they can perform well consistently.
Game Prediction: The Bulls go up to Connecticut and pull out a close victory against an in conference foe. Marlon Mack has a nice game running the football, and a nice night from Quarterback Quinton Flowers is just too much to handle
Final: USF 21 Connecticut 14
