It was just two years ago that Blake Bortles led his UCF Knights to a Fiesta Bowl win. With that team long gone, UCF fans are still awaiting their first win of the season.
It was a classic “David v. Goliath” matchup in their first game against the FIU Golden Panthers- with the Knights “supposed to” come out on top. Thats’s not what happened as FIU came away with the emotional, come-from-behind win.
In their second game against Stanford, the defense was nonexistent, to say the least. The Cardinal nearly shut out the Knights and ran the ball down their throats. Quarterback Kevin Hogan had a career high 341 passing yards and three touchdowns. There are definitely question marks all over the defense but the real question is…what’s wrong in the kingdom?
The offense is not delivering. Predicted to overpower Stanford’s defense, they ended up scoring only one touchdown. And with holes popping up in the front seven and the secondary, it might be a while before the Knights get back to a bowl, not to mention a BCS bowl.
UCF will take on Furman this Saturday at 6 P.M. on ESPN3. Expect this to be a wake up call for the Knights. They will tighten up the D and find something on offense this week but the question is, can they be consistent?
Final Score: UCF 24 Furman 7
