In March the Christopher Columbus Jazz Band performed at Universal Studios’ Music competition. There, band director, Keith Cooper and the other musicians in the Jazz band scored a Superior, which is the highest scoring at the competition, but that was not all. The band also won the prestigious Instrumental Grand Champion that is awarded to the musical ensemble that performs better than all others in the competition. Individuals also brought home four awards for their solos during the competition.
But with so many seniors leaving, the competition may not be so fruitful next year. Most of the musicians in the ensemble are seniors and will be leaving the band to find a new format. Though Mr. Cooper is unsure of the future, he is confidant that younger students will step up to the job. Nikolai Vazquez a junior feels the same way, and is more then faithful that Mr. Cooper will lead them well.
