Yep, you read that right. Vince Young….”Vinsanity”….”Invinceable”…..Remember him?! Probably not. It’s been over seven years since Vince Young’s heroic Rose Bowl victory over the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl. After being drafted third in the 2006 Draft and being named the Offensive Rookie of the Year and even making it to the Pro-Bowl ,Young’s NFL career tanked faster than the Miami Marlins franchise. Four more miserable seasons in Tennessee, talks of suicide, a glimmer of hope in 2009 when he made his second Pro-Bowl appearance, a season in Philly, a season in Buffalo, and then getting cut by the Packers this year before the season started, VT’s had a rough pro career.
So how then is Vince Young relevant now? First off, he’s a Houston native….and besides Dwight Howard, James Harden, Aaron Brooks, and the rest of the Houston Rockets, the city of Houston’s sports scene is as pathetic as my Spongebob comparison below. The Astros ended the season as the worst team in the Major League and the Houston Texans have lost their fourth game in a row. Houston fans are furious and should be. Upon Matt Schaub’s exit due to an injury, in which he was horrifically “booed” off the field, backup QB T.J. Yates came into the game. The former UNC quarterback went on to throw two interceptions including a pick-six, and failed to score a single point himself. Who then would think of Vince Young?
At 3:11 p.m. Houston rapper Slim Thug (not to be confused with our copy editor Alec Mccleod, who is also nicknamed “Slim Thug”) tweeted “ I’m about to go pick up Vince Young.” I know what you’re thinking: who the heck is Slim Thug, and why is he going to kidnap Vince Young? However, apparently Slim Thug is a pretty big deal– well, at least big enough to be labeled “Fam” by the dude himself: Vince Young. Young replied “Fam I will b ready by 3.” Yeaah.. he used “b.” Following an elaborate Slim Thug response of “I’m OMW” Vince Young then decided to remind folks of his existence : “Let them know VY is in shape and ready to go! I always loved my birth place and everyone who lives in it IM READY.”
As ready as Spongebob heading over to the Krusty Krab (I’m so sorry…at least I warned you) Vince Young will most likely not hear from any teams. One thing’s for certain though: I will go buy Madden 25 if Vince Young gets put on any team– even if it’s not the Texans.
A Vince Young return would fall into the “Tiger Woods, Brett Farve, LeBron James, Aaron Hernandez, Tim Tebow, A-Rod” category where half of Sportscenter would consist of just Vince Young. Vince Young was the man in fourth grade. “The next Mike Vick– maybe even with a better arm” the dude was bound to be a legend. While Mike Vick was in prison, Young (basically the only somewhat adept quarterback with speed) was the quarterback of every single one of my franchises. Now, with a league full of mobile quarterbacks, and the read option, Young won’t be such an exception.
In the end, much love to Slim Thug for reminding the world of Vince and hopefully landing the homie a job.
